July 21st week in review

Hello again! Here’s another weekly review. Enjoy!

Review of week of July 21st 2014

We sent out our first batch of Ancona hatching eggs on Monday! They went all the way to Oregon to help start a new flock for a wonderful couple up there. Rockin’ H Farm is happy to know we are helping to preserve the breed and getting new people interested in these lovely ducks! Can’t wait to see how their hatch turns out in about about a month.

Our grass is growing! Our grass is growing!! We planted millet a few weekends ago on the 12th and with the nice rain we’ve been having it has started to grow. So happy for this grass to transform into pasture so we can put up fencing and get our ducks and chickens back there! Praying for the weather to continue to cooperate so this will get to pasture status quickly.

Babies snuggling with momma. Apparently she makes a good pillow! These sweeties are 6 weeks old and growing nicely. This breeding should produce some great show quality kits, so we can’t wait to see how they turn out!

We had a #FlashbackFriday! Layk was such a cute little fur ball! A little hint hint… We should have some more fur balls on the way in September! If you are planning to add a wonderful livestock guardian to your farm or a fluffy house friend to your family, we are accepting deposits. We have one going to Minnesota already reserved!

Saturday the 26th was Mr. Farmer’s birthday. This is what Mrs. Farmer had to say about that… Happy Birthday to Mr. Farmer! This wonderful man is the lifeblood of our farm. He truly makes it all go ’round and run as smoothly as it does, even when he thinks it’s not. He is the one who, more often than not, does the daily chores all by himself as well as a lot of the other to-do lists and improvements. He is wonderfully caring with all of the animals and does each task diligently. He is also great with our customers and visitors, sharing a wealth of knowledge that he doesn’t even realize he has. He can fix ANYTHING. He is a wonderful friend. He is an exceptional husband. When he isn’t on the farm, he is a dedicated Firefighter/EMT helping Atlanta stay alive and safe. He is a remarkable person and the farm simply could not run without him. He is appreciated everyday, but is deservingly celebrated a little extra this weekend!

We have chickies! We are hatching chicks for a customer and we ended up with 17 out of 22 so that is 64%, a pretty good hatch!

A few bonus things not mentioned on Facebook… We did some more disking and seeding to another plot of land so we hope that will start growing too! We are getting plans set in place to start clearing the other 16 acres in October. Mrs. Farmer went to the Ladies Homestead Gathering of Statham and sold all of the eggs in the fridge! Our chickens are being a little finicky again, so the supply is not quite as abundant as usual, but we will have more this week. She also learned about passion flowers and decided we will have some on the farm next year! Mr. Farmer picked to get a new gun for his birthday, a 380 Glock. We also had family and friends over for a celebration and smoked a turkey and duck that turned out DELICIOUS!

That was our wonderful week on the farm! Hope you enjoyed the overview! Come back next week to see what kind of fun we get into.
